List of Israel prize winners and candle lighters.

 

Each year, on the eve of Independence Day celebrations on Mt. Herzl 12 candles, in honor of the 12 tribes of Israel are lit by people who have dedicated their lives to helping the people and the State of Israel. Here is the list of candle lighters for the 63 year of independence: (below you will also find complete lists of prize winners and some of the stories of their achievements)

 

Keli Arij Archib- A social worker of the Druze community, with the prison services who lost 40 of their workers trying to rescue people in the big fire on Mt. Carmel.

 

Saar Shapiro – A young boy of 16 fire fighter volunteer who lost his life in the Carmel fire.

 

Omar bar lev – A volunteer and chairman of “Follow me” an organization dedicated developing motivational and leadership skills among peripheral youth.

 

Gadi Bashari – Established on his own initiative and resources “Heartfelt sweetness” dedicated to given help to soldiers, disabled children, new immigrants and other less privileged sectors of the population.

 

Michael Goldman – A holocaust survivor whose heroic story inspired the film “The 81st strike”, serves as an officer in the police, part of Gideon Hausner’s team to prosecute Eichman on the 50th anniversary of the trial.

 

Barbara Goldstein – Representing the Hadassah women’s organization, celebrating 100 years of contributions to establishing hospitals, youth villages and othe important institutions in Israel.

 

Matityhu Drobles – A holocaust survivor who immigrated from Argentine at the age of 20 and was one of the founders of the settlement “Mevo Betar”, Served as head of the settlement dept of the Jewish Agency and labored for the establishment of hundreds of settlements

 

Orit Dror – A member of Kibbutz Lavi who donated the organs of her son, who died of a tragic illness. Her action saved the life of a 13 year old girl.(Her name was put forward by “Adi” the organization for organ transplant in Israel)

 

Dr. Zeev Dashevsky – A physicist by occupation, a Jewish disenter from Russia who endangered his life to establish secret groups for youth to study Judaism, Hebrew and Zionism. Chairman of Machanaim, an organization for educating youth about Zionism.

 

Mrs. Jobi Tesuma – A social activist in a group of young volunteers of families from Ethiopia”Natural friends”, to help people with immigration difficulties.

 

The Israel Police.

 

Zehava Dankner – A philanthropist who has volunteered to do social work for the last 10 years and gives financial help. She’s in the settlements around the Gaza Strip every week helping people who have suffered from rocket attacks.

 

Rabbi Shimon Rozenberg – Of the Habad (Hassidic Jewish organization) whose representatives spread through all the world, giving help and comfort to Jews everywhere.(His daughter and son in law, Rivka and Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, who ran a Jewish home in Mumbai, India giving hospitality to Jewish travelers were brutally murdered by Arab terrorists in 2008.Their son,   Moishe was the only survivor saved by his Indian caretaker.

 

Ltn Col Hoshea Fridman – A battalion commander of the Carmeli brigade, a man of education who heads the pre- military academy for social involvement and leadership skills.
